Choose your built environment wisely
For the 6000 years we’ve been building cities, the transportation system you pick dictates the form of the built environment.”
~ Christopher Leinberger, Brookings Institute
There is no default transportation system. It is always a choice. The fundamental questions aren’t about traffic volumes, congestion, or gas prices. The fundamental question asks, “what kind of community do you want? What activities do you want to value with the built environment?”
Leinberger’s quote taking from a new video by Everybody Walk, connecting transit to the public health concern of decreased activity. Those who use transit, typically reach the recommended number of steps per day for better health; those who drive, don’t. Good transit and good health are a pair.
