A Little Perspective On Garages

Well Put

Putting a car in a garage is like putting something in a bag that’s already in a bag.

Something like that.

Err, well, not really… but an interesting thought to ponder…
Garages DO extend the life of a vehicle, especially in da frozen north country. And this is good for the environment. Best to take care of our things, no? This goes for bikes too – maybe a good series for you – simple bike maintenance to extend the life of the bike!

Ah, and the more bikes you have the less room for the car.

Another point to ponder, this one concerning attached garages, via Laura Otwell:

Why would anyone want to sleep with their car?

Not sure about that. The salt spray that got on your car while you were driving is still sitting on your car rusting it while it’s sitting in your garage, and it’s also dripping off onto the concrete floor ruining that too. So now you have two things to protect from erosion.

We’ve been parking our car outside since spring so we can fit all our bikes in the garage! Really thankful our rental has a nice garage to park them in, too. We had two bikes & bike trailer stolen from our last place (Portland, OR)

This all reminded me of that I’ve been considering purchasing a pass for the parking deck and storing my car downtown. It’d make room in the garage (where it’s already been nudged out) and offer the opportunity to extend the back yard 10 feet towards the alley. It would also make me more aware of the true cost of storing an automobile on my property.

really?! How much would that be to rent a pass at the parking deck?

Looking around at the vast sea of parking lots around the world, I am reminded that cars are the one thing that’s ugly even when it’s not there.

Let me reword that: a car is the one thing that is ugly even when it’s not there.

Hi, I think an annual parking pass for one of the decks is $405 per year. Don’t know if you have to pay it all at once or if monthly payments are allowed. We keep our car there and it works great. Very safe.
PS, there must be at least two Katies!
