NW Lower Michigan’s First Complete Streets Resolution-Acme
Acme Township is set to be the first community in northwest lower Michigan to pass a complete streets resolution at tomorrow night’s board meeting. This is in large part due to the efforts of Virginia Tegel of TC Scoot Kickbikes and who also serves on the Acme planning commission.
She sent the following message in email with the announcement:
I believe anyone who lives, works, owns property or travels through Acme by bike or as pedestrian would have an interest in this issue. So if your folks are interested in showing support, they could just indicate so in an email to Acme Township – firstname.lastname@example.org
You can also deliver a letter to the Acme Township Board at 6042 Acme Road Williamsburg.
Resolutions are non-binding, but this is a clear sign of the direction that Acme would like to go and valuable tool for citizens and representatives to measure against. You can read the resolution below my comments to the board.
Again, send an email of support to Acme Board of Trustees at email@example.com
Letter of Support:
Greetings Acme Board of Trustees!
I’m writing in full support of the complete streets resolution before you on Tuesday night. This is an excellent sign that Acme leaders take serious the need to provide safe and comfortable transportation options. I believe striving for complete streets that are less focused on simply moving automobiles at high speeds is not only one of the main equity issues of our time, but the prime driver for economic development. Regions that build around the needs of people and create places where people can move without an automobile not only show increases in property values, but also create communities that attract new businesses and help current businesses grow stronger.
Thank you for taking a lead in NW Lower Michigan. Passage of this resolution is a great companion to the recent ribbon cutting at the newly expanded Bayside Park. Congratulations!
