I can’t Wait To Start Retrofitting Our Parking Lots
American Society of Landscape Architects series: Designing Our Future: Sustainable Landscapes.
This video explains the process and positive impacts of creating small pocket parks where now something like a parking lot exists. This is how public neighborhood centers can change the character of a place for good.
Not touched on in the video, but it reminds me of it, is creating multi-use plazas that can function as parks, but may also function as parking when peak need exists. In Traverse City, that is something being attempted at the marina and Clinch Park in the Bayfront Plan.
The idea of turning parking lots into parks is an intriguing concept. We certainly have enough of them.
What lots are you seeing in your city that could use a retrofit?
(Heck, what parks do you see that need a retrofit?)
