Women’s Independence, Or Simply Brunch

Video Tuesday

Excerpt from the film Victorian Cycles-Wheels of Change, by Jim Kellett via Bike Shop Girl.

__

That was then, this is now. And now, in Chicago, thanks in part to Dottie at Let’s Go Ride A Bike, there’s the growing Women-Who-Bike Brunch movement. Nothing fancy. There’s no fireworks. There’s no critical mass. It’s women on bicycles riding to brunch (and maybe happy hour). Liberated now, from the car.

We need more of this. Simple rides around a city. Eating food. Drinking mimosas. Gathering.

MyWHaT will gladly promote an all women Traverse City version of Women-Who-Bike Brunch. If there is a group of you out there, please, by all means, let me know. If you start you’re own BLOG to write about it, also let us know.

The Latest Women-Who-Bike Brunch (images by Dottie–Thanks, ding-a-ling!)

In addition to Let’s Go Ride A Bike, the latest brunch was also represented by the writers from Ding Ding Let’s Ride, This Little Bike of Mine, Bike Fancy, Two Pitties in the City, Po Campo, and Chicargo Bike.

Oh yeah, this is definitely going to have to happen. Soon. Maybe a ride around old town then a bloody mary at Blue Tractor after? Friends, biking, brunch, a bit of alcohol? Hmmmm, NOW you’ve got my wheels turning.

But wait, do I need to have a really cool bike and a hip 3/4 length jacket to make this happen?

Don’t you want & deserve those comforts anyway?🙂

There are no bike or fashion requirements for brunch – ha! Since Martha (of the Bike Fancy photo blog) mentioned that she wanted to take pictures for her blog at the brunch, I’m sure that some of us dressed up a little more than usual for a Sunday ride. However, if you look a the pictures from the past brunches (there have been 3 in Chicago – Nov, December and January) you’ll see all sorts of bikes and clothes. Frankly, I think any ole bike becomes a special or ‘cool’ bike when it ends up in a photo with a happy rider and a fun event. Seriously!

    heck yes I do!

dang, I was hoping for an excuse to splurge on a new super cute coat. Sigh. Agree on the bikes attending a fun event – it would surely uplift my bike’s mood…

Oops I left my comment in the wrong place! Have a bike brunch. Just set a date and place and see what happens. Dottie’s brunch is just very fun. Getting a bunch of women who ride together is a terrific kind of advocacy. It will lift you and your bike’s mood….. Dressing up a little is fun too.
