What A Difference One Block And Two Decades Make
I noticed this contrast between continuous blocks walking along 17th Street earlier this week. The meandering sidewalk through trees on the 100 block gives way to the suburb, car-centric design of the 200 block. There are no sidewalks on the opposite side of the road on either block.
Looked at from another perspective, this is like walking back in time from the 2000’s to the 1970’s.
The Walk Score for this area? 42/100 receives a “car-dependent” rating for the average American. 91% of Traverse City residents have a higher Walk Score. More sidewalks in this neighborhood would help.
