Warning: Icy sidewalks

Ice, Ice…
Late post today due to a late 2 am return flight, followed by a subcommittee meeting for Traverse City’s Active Transportation Plan.
To tired to walk, I took the bus and the early morning chatter on the BATA bus was all about icy sidewalks and icy shoulders. The carnage from this morning was high and one person took a fall walking down LaFranier Hill. “I feel like someone is standing on my back.”
I don’t raise it today as a critique of anything or anyone…ice and odd weather happen. Rather, just wanting to mention a few reminders:
- If you are walking today, be extra careful. Don’t be afraid to use the streets.
- If you are driving, be extra attentive to those people walking in the streets. In many areas of the city, the streets are the only passable place for people to walk.
- If you ever wondered what it is like to traverse Traverse City as an 8-year-old who doesn’t quite have her legs or an 80-year-old who moves a bit slower than most, today would be a good day to go for an exploratory walk. The icy conditions create a simulation for more able-bodied people to put themselves in someone else’s shoes.
Be careful out-there and help someone out!
