Candidate survey for Michigan’s 104th: Wayne Schmidt
A community-supported blog, thank you.
Engage and Represent
Last month MyWHaT’s editorial board of one sent the two candidates for Michigan’s District 104 State House seat a short 7 question survey of open-ended questions. The first to respond for the 104th, was Democratic candidate Betsy Coffia, published yesterday. As offered, her answers were published unedited without annotation. If a candidate didn’t respond, they were made aware that the survey would be published without their responses with only basic information listed at the top. Today was reserved for incumbent Wayne Schmidt and he did not respond to 3 emails, 1 message through his campaign website, and a letter to his home.

Certainly shows which candidate cares more about public spaces and engagement with the voters!
Last summer I received this email from Rep. Schmidt:
“To better serve the citizens of our districts, the Michigan House of Representatives has provided for a two month in-district work session. A two month legislative pause has allowed me to attend more community functions, meetings and constituent coffee hours. I will continue to make myself available to answer your concerns and talk to you about important local issues. While I am able to spend more time in-district, my staff remains in Lansing, attending to daily business. Please do not hesitate to let me know about activities in our community.”
Perhaps if you’d sent your survey during this summer’s two month vaca–er, I mean “constituent coffee hour,” he would have been available to answer your questions.
In his defense, it takes a lot of time maintaining high wardrobe standards and snuffing out “tantrums“.
Sorry, too easy.
Mr. Schmidt has also failed to respond to numerous emails of mine. Too busy courting the corporate money, I guess…
