Get On The Bus

This morning, I was taking NWMCOG’s website for a spin when I found this map of public transit in the region. Like most regional public transit maps, it is a bit overwhelming, and with a closer look becomes enlightening. We actually don’t have a bad spread of possibilities.

Where have you gone by bus? Where are you going to go by bus? Yesterday, I highlighted a national call out for “the best bus route in America.I challenge you to find it in northern Michigan.

To help, you can download this map below, or view it online at the MyWHaT Scribed site. Print it out and put it on your fridge as a reminder.

The Michigan Land Use Institute’s less detailed map, also linked below, has timetables and location descriptions–very useful. You can also view their brochure on Scribed: Regional Bus Schedules

NWMCOG (Northwest Michigan Council of Governments) is “a regional organization serving units of government, businesses, non-profits, community organizations, and individuals.” I’m slowly coming to realize that The COG is involved in almost everything in the region. Yet, many of us don’t even know it exists. Another topic to add to the ever-growing list of things to explore.

Nice info on transit. In addition to regular schedules, there are more and more folks using buses for events. This weekend, thousands of car trips will be averted because of the hard work of the Iceman crew. Buses will be available between Traverse City and Kalkaska for Iceman riders and fans. In addition, there will be a park and ride between TBA and and the finish at Timber Ridge, making good use of underutilized auto parking.
