Have you served on any of these? If so, please leave a comment describing what it is the board or committee ‘actually’ does and perhaps an anecdote or two.
My time on Parks and Recreation has been very short & of questionable significance. We run into the ‘NO’ quite a bit. We simply need more people with experience, energy and a willingness to encourage the city to take more creative risks.
Don’t forget…

I sat down to write about taxes and then this post turned into being all about women & bikes. Some days you just have to let the mind follow its bliss.
And typical, when I think about women, my mind goes a little scattered. Writing complete sentences becomes difficult. So, instead I kept it to a few quick bites that have recently caught my attention or otherwise made the list.
To begin, I recently re-confirmed one of my original posts from the pre-launch days. Yes, my Significant Red Head still thinks I’m crazy. (December 10th seems so long ago…)
April Street writes on Treehugger about the survey and about her wish to see more “because it’s fun transport”responses. The emerging trends from respondents on far: women ride because of 1) health benefits 2) ‘to be outdoors’ 3) savings 4) environmental concerns.
If you need some inspiration for the survey, try looking at the trend #WhyWeRide on Twitter. (You don’t need to register or be a girl to enjoy it).
And, in support of biking as a means to ‘fun transport’:
Fixed Gear Girl in Taiwan and her tribe seem to be always having fun. Biking, friends, food; always food (Taiwanese live to eat).
Cycle Chic in Copenhagen was the original in putting the sexy back into biking. Since it started, there have been thousands of Cycle Chics this-or-that popping up.
Is it time for TC-Cycle Chic? I’m thinking of offering cycle portraits once the nice weather really is here to stay. Interested? Want to show off how good you look with your bike? Shine it up.
The documentary & project to encourage more teenage girls to continue riding,Beauty and the Bike, is always good to check in on once in a while. I love their mantra: Why do girls stop cycling? It’s the infrastructure, stupid!
People for Bikeswas launched this year. It’s all about getting everyone on a bike & looking good doing it.
And, here is cycling for fun and for style for you. From a television ad for JC Penny of all things…(via the BLOG Riding Pretty).
