Announcment: Bay front planning continues today
Bayfront Planning input session ends today:
- 11AM-2PM Watch designers work, public invited to make comments. 108 E. Front St.
- 5:30PM-8PM Public input – Open House in the Opera House. Designers/Engineers reveal the conceptual product.
If you can’t make it, tonight’s presentation will be filmed and you can leave comments at Bayfrontdesign@traversecitymi.gov also. tweet ideas at #TCBayPlan
Some of the ideas being developed include, but certainly not limited to, include:
- A splash-pad and other family focused design elements. All tied into the natural setting.
- Expanding the train route. The Spirit of TC is a popular attraction in need of a lot of love.
- Expanding the trails
- Honoring the natural & indigenous connection to “place”
- Utilizing an artisan well that currently shoots into the bay (hoping for a brook).
- Yes, yes, yes…bathrooms and even a beach house are in the works
- …..
There is certainly more. But a common theme is creating a definite character & cohesion throughout the corridor.
And yes, of course, there has been a lot of focus on Grandview Parkway…I’d send you to the news reports on the subject, but so far they’ve tended to muddle the issues together… IPR should does have a report online today.

Gruesome billboard a little over the top
“Rain changes everything. Please drive to the conditions.”
Last year, the Paparuka District Council in New Zealand made an impact on motorists with billboards that feature children that appear to ‘bleed’ when it rains.
A series of crashes and deaths led up to the installation of intelligent signage.
After the billboards went up, there was no loss of lives on those sections of road and reduced crash rates.
What do you think of the use of disturbing imagery to slow traffic & increase awareness?
